Y-walls Design

Y-walls Design is a multi-disciplinary design practice providing creative and context specific Interior Design and Installation Design solutions with a vision to use Indian crafts for designing contemporary spaces.

Our strength is to blend craft with technology to provide visually stunning and beautifully crafted modern spaces. We design and create brand inspired built environments and interiors ranging from Hospitality and Airport, Luxury Retail and Residences to Mixed-Use commercial spaces. The studio provides range of integrated design services with a strong focus on the tactile and sensory qualities of the space.

Our multidisciplinary design team consists of Architects, Interior Designers and Product Designers who seamlessly integrate original thinking with functional design. We don’t believe in a specific design style but we do believe in a strong design process. The process is fun for us and we make it fun for our clients too. Our approach is to look beyond conventional boundaries to draft a design story and adapt a process that is unique to each project. There is an active engagement in integrating localized skills and resources with state of the art materials and  technology.

Our vision is to design and build spaces that are cutting edge, contemporary, and instantly connects with its users.  The spaces we build today should be narrative inspired, touched by ‘human touch’ and crafted to connect with people on all levels. The design approach should be aimed at creating authentic experiences.

Founder - Preksha Baid

“I have always believed in asking ‘why’ before ‘who, what and when’. If we don’t search how can we ever discover. As a result, my vision to form and grow Y-walls as a design practice is to create and build beautiful and inspiring spaces for people. Exploring different boundaries helps to challenge our vision as designers and avoids the trap of conformity; this process leads to creating design that is honest and relevant”.

Her widely published work ‘Ruby Ceiling’, a Kalamkari textile ceiling for a luxury hotel is an example of using ancient craft in modern context for spaces. Today Y-walls is working on range of space design projects using craft and technology with co-creation as a centric approach.

She continues to research on sensory experiences of spaces, new materials and how Indian heritage of craft and tradition can be woven seamlessly into today’s modern spaces. Be it a luxury hotel, a saloon or a retail environment, the approach is to provide design solutions to clients that are culturally relevant and commercially viable.
